Dang!! A buddy of mine hunted the spot where I shot my deer last year a couple of weeks after me. He said a huge male mountain lion came up from the creek to within about 70 yards of him and was just hanging out for awhile.
Then it took off back down the creek. My buddy left right afterwards. He figured there wouldn’t be any deer in there with that huge cat hanging around. It might be a thought season this year with cats in the area.
Glad to see you bagged a nice deer. I am in Vegas this weekend but plan to start hunting D16 on Friday Nov 4 for about 8 days. I hope I can bring one home this year. Congrats on your nice buck!!!
Idaho elk hunting is hard work. The terrain is straight up, straight down. We were hunting public land, but the private land held most of the herds. We called a herd in on us one morning and had 3 cow elk broadside at about 75 yards. The bull elk was following them, but he stopped in the thick timber and never crossed over onto public.
Another morning I had a cow elk at 35 yards. She didn’t even know I was there. But no bulls followed her. Fun, but hard work. Never fired a shot. Saw lots of doe and cows, but of course we only had buck and bull tags.
