Went turkey hunting with my daughter Sunday evening and we didn't see or hear any birds but I did find my first sheds and stumbled upon a small patch of morels.
Made some elk steaks for dinner and a morel risotto with a side of asparagus. Came out pretty damn good. Never made a risotto before.
I was able secure my first permission day before opener for my 12yr old daughter to hunt Turkey's. Went on a drive with the land owner and he showed me how the Turkey's used a certain field.
After getting my daughter all geared up and her gun dialed in she was ready. We headed to the field...
Me and my friend went out to CJ strike resivoir to do some trolling for trout for the smoker and to use some as sturgeon bait. I was able to land 5 trout and my buddy reeled in 4 after a little over an hr of trolling.
We headed down below the resivoir to the Snake River to do a little...
Well after an unsuccessful big game season I wanted to get out and do some duck hunting. Went out for a Snake River blast & cast.
The night before my buddy realized one of his trailer lights wasn't working so I went and bought a set for him and went over to help install..installed one and they...
I am going on my first 5 day solo elk hunt next month out here in ID and been getting prepped for sometime but curious on what are some things you wish you knew before or things you changed after your first multi-day hunts.
Things you now bring that are a game changer that you wish you knew...
Changed up the version of Sportsman's pie that @NBK had posted up on here sometime ago. Been making some cooking videos and figured I'd share. My wife made me the account because she wanted me to remember the stuff I would cook. I honestly didn't start cooking until I got into hunting about 6...
Just wanted to share some of my fishing trips from this summer. Been fortunate enough to get out and get on some fish. Have gotten out a handful of times since May. Had a few firsts and one that I will never forget. Ready for hunting season!
Went out to CJ strike resivoir to break in my wifes...
I want to add a turkey box call to my Turkey arsenal this season. I usually only run mouth calls and a slate pot call.
Any recommendations on ones that have worked well for you or that you feel sound better then others?
I headed up to Lake Cascade for a 2 day ice fishing tournament this past weekend. The lake is known around the country for having one of the best jumbo yellow perch fisheries. They grown them big here. The state record is 3.22 lbs with a lot averaging 2lbs. I've never ice fished before so it was...
Well my buddy and I got out for the last day of the season. Been in the single digits out here..warmed up to 12° this morning so we headed out. Got to our hole and when we got out of the car we could here lots of ducks around. We were worried if we busted them out when working our way down to go...
My buddy from work wants to get more serious about waterfowling. We went out a few times together but he doesn't have waders. We tried looking for some in his shoe size but can't seem to find any in size 16. Looks like most brands go up to size 14. Even looked at the stocking foot ones but can't...
I finally got my first green head! Started hunting ducks 3 years ago and have only shot some green wings, a buffle head and a ruddie. Been hoping to get one since I started and finally got one yesterday morning while hunting the Snake River out here in Idaho.
The Snake is only about 30 min...
Wasn't sure if I should post here or in the food thread..
Went to a pond nearby and did some trout fishing. Tried a few different setups but went back to the classic carolina rig and started catching them. The first one I caught I released for good luck since it was the first trout I caught out...
Went out last week to try and toss my crawfish trap into the Snake river but upon arrivel there wasn't a good spot to toss it out. It was shallow along the shore and lots of reeds along the river bank. I only had about a 3 hr window to toss out so I figured I'd just toss out for some catfish...
Tried my hand at Crawfish trapping out here in Idaho. To my surprise apparently a lot the canals, creeks, ponds, lakes and rivers out here hold crawfish and some are pretty big! My wife came across a facebook page from a company called Crayster that makes and sells traps and we noticed they...
Went out again to another location along the Snake. 3rd new location I've gone to as that river goes for hundres of miles. Went out to a place called Swan Falls but was skunked last week. Ventured to a new spot this week in the town of Marsing and landed an even bigger catfish then my first...
Well I finally caught my first fish since I moved out to Idaho. I fished the boise river a few times but the water is high and moving fast..still have to learn what works and what doesn't out here. I'd like to learn how to fly fish but getting all the gear foe that isn't cheap. Will have to save...
Wanted to share this on here to try and get some help for my good friend / hunting and fishing buddy Tom.
My friend moved to GA a little over a year ago from San Diego and ever since his dog has been having seizures and different issues. After over a year of tests they diagnosed him with a...
Tried something different with some Elk back straps.
Sliced them thin then mixed with some sautéed bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and jalepeños.
Placed in some rolls and topped with provolone cheese.
It did not suck!
