Outfitter warning

Just a heads up if you’re considering booking a hunt in Washington. Save yourself the headache and don’t.

They double booked my confirmed hunt day which caused me to lose 2 days of elk hunting in Montana and now require another 10 hour roundtrip and hotel stay to go a month later for my rescheduled hunt. They refused to refund my money, so I accepted a counter offer of a token $200 to at least partially offset my extra costs. The promised $200 has still not been paid 2 months after my successful hunt despite numerous promises and dozens of calls/texts/emails from me, most of which were ignored. Buyer beware!

Hence the request for references.....I've hunted with one outfitter my entire hunting life....Friends set the hunt up in Washington State and I was a fill in for someone who dropped out....When we got there, I started asking hunting questions to the outfitter/guide and knew instantly it was a total scam.....The guy was a local fireman too!

Closest thing we saw that looked like an elk.....Grrrrr.....Oh yeah, his name was Shon too!

Similar deal here. My buddy lined this hunt up and I signed up too without doing any research. By posting this, I'm hoping that someone that takes the time to do research can avoid the headache of dealing with this outfit.

Rip-offs!

Not sure about being ripped off. They tried to make it right by scheduling for him to come back up and hunt a second time. Successfully at that.
Sounds like some things didn’t get worked out. But $200 ? Did he tip the cook, the guides, and the outfitter ? Kinda feel like there’s some info missing.

Put yourself in my shoes. You're on a DIY elk hunt in MT, but leave a couple days early for the long drive to Cheney WA for a Bison hunt you have scheduled. Upon arrival, the ranch owner doesn't have you on the schedule and your SOL. BTW, I have email from the broker Shon Webb with confirmed hunt date. At this point it's too late to go back to MT, so you just drive home 5 hours to western WA. Two days you could have hunted are lost.

A month later you have to make another 10 hour roundtrip drive and pay for a motel so that you can now do the hunt you should have already done. The $200 would have barely covered the out of pocket cash, let alone a whole days of driving which is time lost (and my time is very valuable to me).

Despite being upset about the mismanagement by the ranch owner Don and the broker Shon Webb, I wasn't going to stiff the local guide, Dale, because it's not his fault and he did a great job. He actually got a very good tip from me.
Hope that clarifies things. :)

Ok I get it. Still have one question.
If you are mad at them and you don’t want anybody to hunt with them. Why did you put their phone number and email contact on here ?

ok... so work with me here

you leave a Fair chase ELK hunt to go to a high fence bison slaughter? that was the first part of the fail.

so you have posted all over the net. i like the posts on Onyourown like anyone from there would do a high fence hunt lol

i am sure you are mad but maybe let it go

You can get all that off their website if you wanted to book with them. It was only put it there in case someone has that number to call for a hunt and searches for it on the net, they'll find my post. I sure don't want to drive business their way (unless I don't like you LOL).

Setting up backlinks all over the internet. Quite a giveaway when he included tags on this post. Harald is no amateur at spamming. Nicely done!

I love it when their first post is and introduction followed immediately by a “buyer beware”.

Moral of the story, pick up a phone and confirm your appointment before you leave.

Yeah, I wish I would have done that a week before my confirmed date while I was still in civilization. I actually couldn't call while out elk hunting because there was no cell service where I was in MT.
