Just got back from AZ and I was seeing loads of animals, Antelope, Deer, Elk....I didnt put in for the draw but am banking on the OTC tags late season which is fine because it coincides with a lion hunt Im going on. Here I've seen a few deer in the early mornings moving around nothing much though.

been out a few times to check cameras but only branches moving and dead batteries kinda depressing to drive/hike for nothing (first year putting them out). brought them all home ;-). now that I know I didn't draw my zone for rifle I will be on it for archery big time. might get that d16 tag

I got the A22 tag, Im pushing really hard and deep. I read maps 3-4 hours a day, plan routes, been out a few times but nothing like what hunting will be like. Im at the point where Im filling out a remote camping permit in Cleveland every weekend.

First velvet of the season on camera on 4/27. Checking cameras every 3-6 weeks. Getting deer at each cam location I've selected so far but I'm also learning a lot about choosing cam locations and angles here in D16. The wind.... Ughh. But it's cool, I'm having fun.

Was out on Tuesday, saw 6 or 7 deer while relocating my cam, including a spotted fawn. They were up and moving till around 1100.

awesome pics steve, I will be back out in a couple of weeks setting cams out with fresh batteries ;-) and no branches in the way. hope to post up pics soon.

Here is one from my morning drive. He may do okay. This was a bachelor group of 7.

Came home and there was a young buck in the yard.

All the green feed sure helps their growth.

Yeah. We are small around here. 5 acre mins in my neighborhood. So 150 yard min would of course apply. As long as your neighbors are okay it gives a little breathing room.

Lots of big properties close by though.

Drive 10 minutes east and you are into 1000 acre type ranches.

Spotted a shooter buck in my zone. A really wide and tall 3x3. Super good buck for my zone here in the local mountains. I'm thinking it's the big guy I saw last year. So now the count is up to 4 bucks three are legal shooters and one is a spike.

I'm gonna try tomorrow see if he lets me snap some photos and maybe get some film. I had my dlsr with a Novagrade adapter for my spotter but no batteries!!! To say the least I was bummed. Plus he only gave me about 30 seconds to watch him. He's a dandy , we'll see if I catch him this weekend.

You might try laying off a few weekends. Usually max for me is one spot every other week. If you keep a scheduled time and day....they will catch on and leave or go out for the prowl at night.....I'm no expert....... just my advice. To space out your scouting

So that's where the 2 pigs in California went to lol.

Is it illegal to night hunt where you're at?

Not sure of the legalities, the property is a cattle ranch, so it would be a big no-go from the landowner. Too many other animals around. I have shot a few pigs at night on a depredation permit in Tulare County, it was a lot of fun.
