What is happening to McCain Valley?!

Went to McCains today. Holy cow, what is happening to that place??!! I've never seen the place like this and am afraid this little sanctuary will be no more.

First of all there is a whole ton of vehicle, the road got all torn up. Then there many huge patches of brush all torn up and cleared off along the road. Each patch is a couple acres in size, few hundred yards from the road, and a dirt path cleared to access each of the patches from the main road.

There are construction vehicles, porta-potty, water tanks every couple minutes along the road. All the way from the first camp ground to past the campground at the end. Basically, the entire length of the road.

I couldn't hike far enough away from the road to where there was no construction noises. Needless to say, game animals normally expected were nowhere to be seen. The quiet peacefulness is no longer.

As I was leaving, there were more cars, bulldozers, water trucks, clearing the bushes. Every couple minutes, had to pull off to the side to let a vehicle or a few vehicles pass. I had to ask one of the workers what's going on, he said they are putting in wind turbines. I asked if the place will still be hunt-able after the construction, his answer is "It's supposed to be".

Anybody know anymore about what is happening there?

I heard they're widening the road in preparation for the wind turbine installations. Should end up as ugly as the Sunrise Powerlink. I was out there the other week shooting jacks and noticed all the construction signs too.

No they can't do a eir, how do you write down on paper that you will kill hundreds of protected raptors and keep a straight face

I was out there a few weeks ago and saw the same thing.

There is a rumor more building and development. SDGE is up grading the power poles for increase of electricity. No rules apply. McCain valley should not have been touched.

I love when there are 30mph winds and 3/4 of the windmills are not spinning. HUGE WASTE OF TAX DOLLARS!!!!
Probably because they're all broken... I have a buddy who works for an energy company in Texas who says those things break down ALL the time and are really expensive to repair. I think a couple months ago one even fell over in Ocotillo. I wonder how much of our tax dollars subsidize these greenie science projects.

I don't recall McCain valley to be especially windy either. I go there quite a bit, most of the time I don't notice there being very much wind.

A fellow hunter on a different site responded to my request for information. It answered a lot of my questions.

I thought I would share that here as well.

62 wind turbines, associated lines and structures, meteorological tower, and blasting will be involved.

After the Sunrise powerlink, the valley was already difficult to navigate for hunting. This time, there was a big base put right by a prime spot where I crossed path with a mountain lion and multiple deer on several occasions in the past. I think safe to say that McCain valley is pretty ruined.

Yea it's a shame, I have a buddy that lives in Jacumba and McCains has been our party's go to spot for deer, mainly just because there is a lot less pressure. Burned a lot of boot leather out there and know the place pretty well, really sucks it's gonna be over.

Wrong.

SDGE does yearly access road maintenance and grading on the access roads for the poles, gas mains and any other equipment they have.

If you think wind generators are a waste of money, then research Fukushima Japan. Were nuclear reactors are a disaster. Think about when wind generators break it does not kill everything.

I use to work on wind mills they do break quiet often and require a lot of work and money to keep running. If they are new turbines then they are probably covered under warranty but if they are older then it's the cost of the company to repair or replace them. Most likely the reason they weren't running wasn't because they are all broken but because at a certain wind speed or meter/second speed they shut themselves down to prevent damage and excess wear. I am in no way for wind turbines they have taken thousands of acres of which I use to hunt. Where I live has more wind mills then any other location in the world (well at least it use to be that may have changed since the last time I looked)

In McCain valley, this project alone will take away 12,360 acres for hunting.

The map shows an overhead power cable will pretty much run the entire length of the road. In addition to windmills, weather towers, parking lots, etc.
