a friend of mine near campo had a single hen with 5 poults on his property before the weekend rain. Unfortunately today, the hen came back to his property with only 1 baby. I'm guessing the other 4 died due to the cold wet weather. Anyone else seeing poults?

If she looses all her poults will she breed again?

No.....If she loses her eggs & doesn't hear them peep.....She'll renest.....Our real hope now is the renesting effort & jennies that bred late.....This storm was the worse case scenario.

With the die off from the storm and a excessive take on jakes, MCC isn't fairing too well for next spring. Hopefully the hens that lost their eggs will renest and the left over jennies will produce some poults. I feel like the little glimmer of hope we had for the club just got demolished by a wrecking ball.

Gen,
I don't think the storm will be much of a problem for mcc. I don't think it snowed that low (except for dyche and will). The Jake killing storm on the other hand is a different story...o_O

The last few years I've seen poults as late as early July so in my opinion don't fret they will regroup and have another go at it. P.S. saw nine full size birds yesterday across the street yesterday, most I've seen in awhile up this way. The cover is tall on my ranch and I intend to leave it and give the hens a place to hide their nest's
