Recently got serious with hunting these predators. After half dozen outings, with one missed opportunity, I managed to get this one. Dont know if he made me (120yds) or it was the clear view of my truck parked several hundred yards away, but this dog was turned away about to run off when I took the shot.

Thanks everyone. Last year while scouting for deer I was able to see these coyotes at a distance. So my scouting gear now includes a rifle and caller.

The day prior I scouted my area which showed bunch of deer signs. Decided to leave the spot alone and check out another area. The new area had absolutely zero signs of deer. Saw a young jack rabbit when I pulled up. That was it. So when I spotted the dog a few washes over I decided to try the caller.

Congrats. They are definitely one of my favorite critters to hunt. I don't think people will ever have an appreciation for how smart and hard to hunt these guys are until they get out there and do it.

Also where you are standing is my favorite type of a stand in the desert. When you can get up high on those small hills in the desert your chances will increase dramatically. It doesn't take much elevation in the desert to be able to see forever.

Congrats, and hope you get more. The deer population needs it in that zone for sure.

Awesome work Jon, sorry I missed out. Would have loved to film the whole thing..hahahaha After my mistake im sure you made sure the gun was loaded. Congratulations my friend!!!

Congrats, great accomplishment. I've tried a few times and failed.

Great job! Now go get a bunch more they are all over here (Riverside) and like somebody already said our deer population will thank you not to mention all of our small game.

If only it was that simple...
I try the forest d15 but the yotes are all in the city.
I hear its tough now because these dogs have been called already. Ill try anyways so I can be better for spring.

Thanks for the encouragement all!
