Got a little head start on the work party today.....Cutting more fan palms this morning, I was rapidly running out of space to carry them.....So, a trip to San J was in order.....After dumping the fronds, I took a drive over to the Walker's.....Only fair timothy growth, but the bulrush is really good.....Some of the blinds are pretty good, but most are pretty thin and need work.

With Tom's permission, I did a little work on Walker 7 and looked to see what could be done to make this site a little better.....Really doesn't need much, as it's a 2 man pit blind.

Just to let everyone know that's new to waterfowling.....San Jacinto Wildlife Area is open 7 days a week.....You just need to sign in and follow the signs....It will give you a little better feel what you're dealing with at dark thirty in the morning as well.....Good idea to take a camera too.

I'm not a big fan of those swear pipe blinds. I'm sure it'll be cleaned off some but as it sits right now how could you even see a bird unless it was almost directly overhead?

Appreciate the photos, Steve. You planning on being there on the 30th?

Mike,

I never miss a work party, if I can help it.....I'll be leaving the house around 5:00 am, if you want to go.

Eric,

That little bit of brush around the pits is perfect......Breaks up the monotony of the barren island in the pond. It also allows us to hide our dogs.....What I may clean up is the perimeter of the island.....It gives the birds a place to loaf.

Took another load out to San J yesterday.....If anyone wants to take another run out there this week-end (I know most of you work Mon-Fri), let me know......It only takes minutes to cut & strip a truck load of palm fronds in the morning. I have a great source for new my house.....wink.gif

New water structures for B pond.....Guys it takes a lot of time filling these ponds and Tom will start flood-up soon....So, it's imperative we have a big bunch of guys on the 30th. It's a lot easier to work blinds when the fields are dry. I assure you......lol

Anything you recommend we bring? Work gloves, lunch, etc?

Mike,

Good leather gloves are a must.....You're dealing with wire and brush.....Water, boots, good hat, and possibly some sunscreen/bug stray are good too.....Historically, we all go to lunch around 11:30am.

I'm looking forward to watching Tom move an island around with his giant Tonka toys.

Need lots of help for this one and more palm fronds......Great way to meet new guys & learn the San Jacinto WA......This WA offers dove hunting too......;)

If anyone needs a ride, be at my house at 5:00 am......Esco.

ps.....If anyone wants to bring their calls, we could do a little practicing on some live birds.....:yum

Daggum. I work Saturday.

Steve, I have an unlimited supply of palm fronds in Fallbrook. Any kind. I can load them up on a trailer and bring them out. I need to build blinds at the river, also.

Paul,

What you doing the rest of this week?......Let's take some out there......I'll most likely head back out Wednesday for sure.

Bump.......For all that like to hunt out here, you all need to help make it a better place to hunt......;)

Took another load out this morning.....Was able to even do a couple of blinds (Walker's).....Should be a fun morning.....Water starting to flood some of the area.....Early migrators will have a great place to loaf when they get here.....Lots of local mallards will like the welcome relief of fresh water as well.

Great time at the "j" today......Big turnout too (25-30).....
smiley-clappin-yellow.gif

A lot of work was done......Including cutting brush from drains, opening water structures, directional posts, building blinds, and brushing them up.....The weather early on was nice, but that changed quickly with winds from the east. That brought a lot of dust, humidity, and heat....Weird that you couldn't even see the local mountains......

The 1st cinnamons were sighted, as water is starting to flood up Walker's, B, C, D, & E ponds.....Of course, a number of mallards seen......

ps......Hotel California was looking pretty good after brush-up......

Great turnout got to meet a lot of new people! Saw some local talent coming into to the local watering hole it was a weird aftenon as far as weather goes. If you missed this one you have to go to the next to get a lay of the land.

Great seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new guys. Steve, did you ever figure out who makes that orange call you were using yesterday?

Mike,

It was a gift & it has no markings (which is rare).....It appears to be an RNT acrylic (shape), but could be a custom.....Sounds pretty good, whatever it is.....;)
