Hello SCHO,

NEWB here. Born and raised in Orange County, been hunting about 3 years now but I've never hunted OC. I figured it was about time I gave it a shot. I'm hoping to hunt off Ortega, but in true NEWB fasion I have no idea where to start.

Any advice would be appreciated. Also, I'm looking for a local hunting buddy if anyone is interested.

OC,

Welcome to SCH......You may want to try joining a hunting club, shooting club, or a local conservation group.....If you're into waterfowling or would like to learn, we're having a work party out at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area next Saturday.

ps......Most of us hunt multiple species. So a work party like this will get you around like minded guys.

well hello there neighbor. What part of OC are you from? Where have you been hunting? Do you have a 4x4? What do you hunt?
Your best place to start is googlemaps for an arial view. Then a drive of north main divide will help get the lay of the land. Tough hunting in OC since you have to do a lot of hiking to start scouting.

I'm totally interested in meeting up with you guys. How do I go about setting that up?

I'm in Costa Mesa.
I've hunted A-Zone, mainly Santa Barbara and Mendocino County. I've also hunted Camp Roberts, and a small area just north of Edwards Air Force Base, I believe it's called Monterrey Park.

In addition, I've hunted D-17, best and most successful area by far. But I didn't draw for that area this year so I figured it's about time I started hunting here at home.

Unfortunately, I don't have a 4x4, since the areas I hunt don't require one.

Finally, I'm used to tough hiking, the appears to be the norm through california if you want to be a successful hunter.

What about you? Where do you live? Are you interested in meeting up some time and scouting together?

Do you know if anyone else near me will be attending? Should I buy a bird tag and shot gun? lol.

I could help you, if you were in San Diego Co......Not that far to drive by yourself......And yes, owning a upland stamp will allow you to hunt doves out there Sept 1st.

Sounds fun but I'll likely be trekking back successful or failed from a coyote hunt tonight
