Hi all,

The name's Dave and I'm from north OC. Even though I've spent most of my life hiking/camping/fishing, I just started hunting this year, and have thus far been out for rabbits and dove. I'm also looking forward to hunting quail in a few weeks, and hopefully I'll have some time to go after turkey this fall.

At the moment my arsenal is just a camo-dipped 12 gauge Mossberg 500 with a 28" field barrel, 18.5" "security" barrel, and 24" rifled slug barrel, though I'm planning on expanding the collection later as well as eventually delving into archery.

I'm looking forward to learning more and hopefully meeting some of you fine folks out in the field. Happy hunting!

Hi Dave and welcome to the site. Your one gun will do you well since you can do Upland Game, Waterfowl and Turkey with it. A small game rifle and big game rifle will fill in the other niches as will a solid bow. But with guns, just like fishing rods you can never really have too many. Good luck in your upcoming hunts.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Went out with a buddy yesterday to scout a few potential spots for quail but they seem to have dried up. Tried to bag some rabbits in the afternoon but wasn't able to get a good shot on the few we saw, though it still was a good day of hiking around with nice weather. I'm camping in lake arrowhead with the family next weekend, so hopefully I'll have some better luck then.

Understood. I work for a general contractor and deal with subs all day, so I certainly know how to not be shy or take things personally :)

It is a great shotgun. I've only had one little feeding issue that was fixed by tweaking the cartridge stop a little bit, otherwise it's eaten up everything I've run through it.

I keep trying to convince my wife that we can never have too many guns... The next purchase will likely be a semi-auto shotgun for her (she really liked shooting my buddy's Franchi Affinity during dove opener).
