on the mountain
Well went to one of my old spots. Got here late. Due to rain and snow. Got busted by a deer on the way in. All I saw was a deer haul ass. I circle a round but no luck. Headed for the area to still hunt.

Found a good set of tracks followed them up. Taking my time real slow.three jumped out but the deer were hualing ass. Try to stop it by calling. No go. Turns out there was an other hunter , who was above the deer and had hit a doe. But it was a bad shot. She booked it. Tried to help him track it but was long gone. Since my gloves were soaking wet from the rain headed back to the truck. Warm up and try my luck at an other spot. Where I could not get to, because of snow.
Good day out will try again.

Lol fingers would not work. Blizzard conditions. Rain, sleet, snow. Ice, and hail. Fuc ing cold.

Well I am disappointed. Saw an other 8 deer. But all were to far. 50- 60 yards. And the wind factor was big factor. 40-60 mile gust. I let the arrows fly but it was in vain. After 40 yards the arrows would fly to erratic. It was a big pisser. Ran into deer scrape's. Big time. The Ground the beat up from tracks. I was wearing a rain gear. But the pant legs got tore up. Legs were starting to get wet In snow blizzard. All my gear was been tested. Range finder just wouldn't work. Temperature the with wind chill facture 20- 30 degrees. Chilly. The Hands would get hyperthermia. Frost bite. Wool was doing its job. Hiked in approximately 1.5 miles. Which was tough to do up here, in the conditions. Just to let you all know tons of Turkey tracks. I saw a few , but was i busted and they were gone. Busted ass today. And no go. That's hunting.

Had similar experience today. I usually go solo. After 2.5 hrs of constant rain/wind in my stand I hiked in to a few spot busting deer and following tracks. No good with bow today. Still got a month. Would love to find those turkeys though. ; )

Burrrrrr..........Still plenty of time, Lee..........;)
It has been my experience up on hill, there is a window of opportunity.
After winter hits deep, most of the deer go to lower elevation. It gets dead. I might have an other weekend or two. Good news is the rut is going strong. And I know where I going next week if is not over by then. I interrupted their fun today.

I was on them today. Since all the tracks were fresh. Minutes or seconds ahead of me. . The other hunter got there by a few seconds before me.. Deer ran by me within 10 yards. That is why I like hunting while it's snowing.water proof boots and rain gear that is quiet. And blends in. I am good. Raingear helps with the wind chill. With the rain and snow deer were moving. Tough luck today. I need to research better expandable with heavier weight. Just like heavier bullets do better in wind.

The problem with shooting at the range, it's all flat and level and usually no wind. Today I was battling the elements, wind, rain, uneven terrain. It's a know fact coordination in cold weather goes to hell. Add age, physical strength and yadda, yadda. And all that. I like hunting in foul weather. It is what makes me tick. The views were spectacular. Saw deer, turkey and other critters. Wish my photo graphic skills were better. All though I was disappointed with not getting the job today. I feel blessed I was able to accomplish it. Work on a little better gear. And try it again. And again until that day I score again.

God Bless

WOW, I can't believe I just found this thread. Was too busy trying to tag out I guess. Exciting stories and thanks for sharing. Keep at them. Nice to hear you trying to help out the other hunter look for his deer.

Well had to work Saturday. Sucks. Windy today 40 to 60 mile gust up here on
the mountain, heading out this afternoon. Practice in the Wind , 2 out 4 hits in the above condition. At 40 yards. Using grim reapers target heads. Pulled out gold tip hunter series arrows. Tighten up all screws, and removed the quiver. Using leg quiver to minimize wind movement. It was still tough. But better.
