How is the season progressing?

Been out of the Country for a while but I will be headed out there to close out the season. I looked over the Upland section and haven't seen many Gobblers posted in a bit. Have the hills gone quiet?

Also looking for input on another activity I was thinking about. My 5 year old son can hardly sit still for a cartoon much less a turkey hunt but I was thinking about taking him to a park in Julian or somewhere totally surrounded by private or otherwise unhuntable land and trying to call in a Tom or some Jakes so he can see them up close. I know this is a double edged sword, on one hand I get to take my little man outside and give him a thrill if I can get a turkey to gobble but I also run a risk of educating some birds. What are your thoughts. I know things are tough out there and I am just visiting so if the concensus is no I won't do it.

Thanks

5',

Things are tough now, even for jakes. But, if you have a spot, you never know what may move in.....I hunted a primo private spot today. Yesterday, it had lots of gobbles early.....Today, almost nothing. And when they hit the ground, dead silence.....Stayed till 10:00 am.

I think that's a great idea with your son.....Places like Santa Ysabel East & West Preserve, Cuyamaca State Park, Lake Morena campground, El Monte Park are just a few of the places that turkeys could be possibly called in and observed up close.

2 of these 3 longs are no longer with us after last week-end.....;)

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear they're still gobbling..some. I'm driving out tonight, planning to take the little man to Cuyamaca tomorrow afternoon (I have to work half day) then Saturday my cousin is taking me out to some land she has access to so hopefully I can get some birds called in. I am missing the opener here in AZ but I have until the end of May and its supposed to be super windy here so probably not a big loss.
