A hunter who believed he had taken down a pair of turkeys set out to find the birds, only to discover his brother and friend wounded on the ground. Kenneth Dienst who was out hunting with the victims on the opening day of the turkey season in Kansas, accidentally shot the pair after mistaking their disguises for real birds.
Right after the shot, he thought he saw a turkey flopping on the ground, but when he hurried up there, he saw the two guys rolling on the ground, "Jim Budsone, a Kansas Department of wildlife, Parks and Tourism Game Warden, told the Wichata Eagle. " He'd shot both in the face.
The shooter swore he had seen strutting toms and some other turkeys right up until then.

The victims, identified as Larry Dienst and Justin Miles, had been hiding behind preserved turkey tail fans, meant to act as a decoy to other birds, the Wichata Eagle reported.

They were calling to each other and sneaking up on each other, "Bussone told the Wichita Eagle".

And that's why you don't use tailfans on public or any land where someone else is hunting. Worst part is this guy obviously just shot at the fans and didn't even see the head of a bird. People are idiots.

It was only a matter of time with all these TV programs advertising hiding behind fans to sneak & ambush gobblers.

It's funny how times have changed.....When I 1st started turkey hunting, I read & tried to learn as much as I could (23 years ago).....One of the cardinal no no's was not sneaking or ambushing turkeys (it was considered unethical).....Now they sell decoys to do it.

Always remember, you're hunting beards....No beard, no shoot.
