Thanks. What is the story behind the name?

Back in the 1870s marshalls corned some convicts escaped from Carson City prison. Location was at the creek mouth. A Marshall named Morrison was killed, they named the mountain behind the lake Mount Morrison. I might be off a little but not too far. Old west high country western movie type stuff.

Nice find on the arrowhead. I wonder the nearest source of obsidian. Do you know? I bet more than a few Ph.D's have been done on that area.
Everywhere. You can fill a truck bed with obsidian from the sierras.

You were right, seems there are local obsidian sources:

Yes. I didn't get a chance to research yet, but as a blanket statement I was going to say I have seen it from south to north in the Sierras, so I would assume there are multiple sources.

North as far as Bridgeport area. Never spent much time north of there, but I believe the trend continues north of there.

Really fun day.....Started before sunrise for a cottontail, then looked at some areas I've never been before for waterfowl, saw lots of quail, saw a really nice bull elk, and then had a wide open trout bite in the evening......Doesn't get much better than this.....

Its' pretty well documented that the local tribes traded among themselve's over the years for goods. My ranch in Mesa Grande has produced a lot of obsidian from the Owens valley that was traded between the tribes over time. Not trying to jack your thread Steve, Just want to lend knowledge...
