    Any birdies left?

Late to the party.. couldn't make opener so I'm giving it a go Sunday and Monday. How bad were the storms... should I prep for mud bogging Wister style or is it manageable down there? Hope the storm didn't blow what's left of the birds out.

    San J 11-30-22

Hit San J yesterday with @ilovesprig and was surprised with a strange foggy morning. Thought it might lift quick but the thick fog hung around for the first hour or two of shoot time which made it nearly impossible to see any flyers. It eventually lifted but things remained slow. We got one...

    Plaster City with the kiddos

Headed down to the valley this past Saturday with my kiddos in tow to see what birds were left. Saturday afternoon down south was initially slow, but by the time I got some fliers, the munchkins were hot and done. Bagged 5 and a pigeon. Next morning we headed to my usual opener spot and, despite...

    Plaster City 7-30-22

Took my daughter to PC hoping to find some euros for me then get her on rabbits. A wind storm hit as soon as we got into the valley which kicked up the birds and I was able to finally break in my new Beretta 686 20 gauge, dropping 15. Then we tried driving canals hoping to get her on bunnies but...

    San J 1-12-22

@ilovesprig and I hit San J today with my #4 rez and it was a fun one. Early morning had some frantic flights from different directions that had us spinning, plus I was shooting worse than Stevie Wonder so that didn't help either. But things steadied, we figured it out, and ended up with 2 mixed...

    Beretta Victory Chokes

Anyone have good reviews on these? I recently got a Beretta 686 20G and am looking for some extended chokes for upland game.. rabbits, quail, bandtail, maybe some dove. Thinking of getting these in IC and M. I run a Kicks High Flyer modified in my SBE3 and love it but need some choke advice for...

    Wister 12/8

Slow morning at Wister today but @Irvine and I were able to manage 4 a piece. Fly off was almost non-existent.. the teal that usually buzz through at first light never came. Didn't even see many high flyers going to/from the sea. Weird day. We dropped our pins early (hens) then of course all day...

    Second Chance Buck

Been mostly duck hunting lately so I figured with a day off I'd try to get on a buck. Headed up the mountain with @DanSanDiego and on the hike up we bumped a doe and buck right away. The buck was about 10 yards but by the time I got my gun ready he was bouncing away. I tried a running shot...

    Goose opener

Had a #35 ressie for 11/6 which happened to be goose opener. Being more of a duck guy and not having any goose expertise, I linked up with buddy Hunter and he got us set up on a dry field with his trailer of full body dekes. The geese were all in the club behind us about 200 yards but at shoot...

Trolling motor battery ideal for kayaks?

Any recommendations for a lighter deep cycle type battery to be used for a trolling motor on a kayak (in this case, my layout duck boat)? I currently use a big ol' traditional deep cycle which works great in terms of power, but is so dang heavy that it bogs me down and even causes that...

Ducks and deer opener same day?

Got a dilemma, not really a dilemma since I'll always pick duck opener over deer opener but this is the first one in awhile I remember that they open on the same day. Who's hunting what? I'll be hunting the quacks, whether on the refuge or freelancing on the sea. Good hunting all

    Vacuum sealer misfire

I have a FoodSaver where it senses the bag insertion and starts automatically, but it took a dump while packing this round of doves and it's driving me nuts. It won't sense the bag and won't start up.. no seal no nothing. Anyone ever have this issue and resolve it?
