Hi. I saw your post. I guess you figured out that I hunt at the McCain Valley BLM. I need to find some new spots out there again since the construction. If you can point me to some new spots to scout out, I'd certainly appreciate it.

That would be great! Most of my spots that I've scouted out there have been taken away due to construction. I will send you a PM

Not abundant, but we got what we were looking for

Third year hunting with my kid. Both of us got our first rabbit of the season. Out at the BLM, rabbits not terribly plentiful. (They were everywhere on our drive out, just not where we can shoot them). Construction traffic was horrible. No longer the sense of privacy and isolation that used...

    .22 LR Lead Free Ammo

I tried the CCI Copper .22. Didn't notice any problems with knockdown power. Accuracy is not nearly as good as the old lead bullets though. Especially at distance. Anything past 20 to 25 yards it's very iffy. So much so that I think I might reload some low velocity .223 with Trail Boss...

What is happening to McCain Valley?!

Aww.... Thanks for the update. I was hoping to hear they may be getting close to completion or something. I guess not.... Time to look for new spot to take my boy to this cottontail season.

What is happening to McCain Valley?!

In McCain valley, this project alone will take away 12,360 acres for hunting. The map shows an overhead power cable will pretty much run the entire length of the road. In addition to windmills, weather towers, parking lots, etc. http://tulewindeccmp.com/

What is happening to McCain Valley?!

62 wind turbines, associated lines and structures, meteorological tower, and blasting will be involved. After the Sunrise powerlink, the valley was already difficult to navigate for hunting. This time, there was a big base put right by a prime spot where I crossed path with a mountain lion...

What is happening to McCain Valley?!

A fellow hunter on a different site responded to my request for information. It answered a lot of my questions. I thought I would share that here as well. http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/road-widening-begins-tule-wind-project-mccain-valley-closures-and-traffic-delays

What is happening to McCain Valley?!

I don't recall McCain valley to be especially windy either. I go there quite a bit, most of the time I don't notice there being very much wind.

What is happening to McCain Valley?!

Went to McCains today. Holy cow, what is happening to that place??!! I've never seen the place like this and am afraid this little sanctuary will be no more. First of all there is a whole ton of vehicle, the road got all torn up. Then there many huge patches of brush all torn up and cleared...

Jackrabbit and a snake turned into pen

I did a little bit of research before doing this. There are a couple of ways. The "correct" way that I read on tanning snake skin is to soak it in a 50/50 denatured alcohol and glycerin solution. This will result in a soft, supple skin when dried. Useful if making soft goods like arrow...

Jackrabbit and a snake turned into pen

Well Benjammin, I respect your opinion. But I also have my own values and opinions which may be different than your own. I won't automatically defer to your values simply because yours is different than, or even it should be more popular than mine. Nor would I try to impose my own personal...

Jackrabbit and a snake turned into pen

Yes, you are right. I wish it was a rattle snake instead as well. I only came across a gopher snake, which I passed up, and this king. The king snake had the pattern which I thought looked fantastic and made me really wanted to try the project with it.

Jackrabbit and a snake turned into pen

Not entirely belonging to this thread... I think. But oh well. Went out last week with my dad. Got a jack with the 17 hmr and a snake Jackrabbit was standard, but snake is new for me. The snake was a California King snake which looked like it has some good looking pattern, I wanted it to...

    How to clean a rabbit

Here is my new video that my son took just today, he was timing me. Not the gut squeeze method, just a regular skin and gut. I do this right as we get back to the truck, fairly quick and easy and makes the gut squeeze pretty much unnecessary if done in the field. https://youtu.be/-Ak9cNhKHtY

    How to clean a rabbit

Hey, that's me in that first video. From a few years ago. I actually don't use that squeeze method much nowadays. I use the fillet method for jack rabbits, and I use the method that Truduct described for cottontails, but using game shears or kitchen scissors instead of knife. My rabbit...
