    Easy blind ideas

Keep it simple. 3-4 stakes for support. Zip tie a camo-dyed burlap or your camo netting of choice to it. Set it up against some natural cover and then brush it up with the same stuff to hide it better. Done! 10 minute setup or less and 5 minute take down. You can configure it into whichever...

    1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th IV dove

Hunted NW of Imperial on the 1st and 2nd with the girlfriend. We shot 21 on the opener and 8 more on the morning of the 2nd. Tons of pressure in the area but we skirted off to the side a few fields over and had it to ourselves and had consistent shooting. Had a short day at work on Tuesday and...

    BRU-TAL Duckin' 12-30-17

Hunted the blind to the west of that blind back in Nov with a #14. We had the same thing happen. Not the usual flight in that area from what I saw when I was there. Down south just a hair seemed to be a bit more active.

Sounds like the typical red tape scenario.

    Afternoon duck hunts...advice

So I’ve never asked Tom or anyone there why they don’t flood the lake or keep it flooded. They just want it to be natural? Funding? Issues with the local gov.? It would only make sense to have it flooded if it could be a benefit to migrating waterfowl since SJ doesn’t really have a closed zone...

    Afternoon duck hunts...advice

They could be right, honestly. If Mystic was full, some birds may opt to not head to Lake Perris after the day break show. Or it could be more possible for them to bounce between LP and Mystic during different times of the day. I guess we'll never know until Mystic has water again. I've been in...

    Afternoon duck hunts...advice

Well, it never gets super cold but when it does reach lower temps, the 30s, I see more bird movement later in the day in SoCal. Most of the birds that we shoot year around are fair weather birds and don’t like the cold so temps in the 30s and 40s will make them move more. We are barely reaching...

    Afternoon duck hunts...advice

It’s not cold enough for good afternoon shoots this year. It’s definitely been colder in the past few years. There no good reason for them to not wait till after dark to search for food.

    kern water fowl resi

Never hunted Kern. Looked at the averages for it for last week. Pretty decent for what CA is shooting right now. Over a 2 bird average with Spoonicus and Gads taking the top two spots. Great chili material to me. Like Ilovesprig mentioned about the free roam being good. #1 tip if you're going...

    IV today

Question for you then.... do you prefer to hunt the roost or the feed area? I have both types of spots scouted out, but see more in the feed area. Just curious.

    Dove question

Another question, I noticed a lot of the doves are sitting in the fields in the vegetation so it’s hard to hunt them like that. Are you guys walking the fields or just sitting in a spot pass shooting?

    IV today

Well, made it out to the valley at 6 AM just in time to get to a spot I scouted out the last two weeks after duck hunting and poof! Field turned to dirt! No doves in sight. After that was a bust I had to run and gun to try to find a spot that maybe had potential. Ended up being a bust. Shot two...

    Dove question

Hey guys, Question for y’all. What types of habitat or areas do you see most of the doves you shoot in the IV? I’m used to hunting safflower, sunflower fields, orchards, and dry creek beds in northern CA. The amount of lettuce and what seems to be just basic hay(?) fields in the IV are the most...
