    My 2018 turkey season

Wow it’s been awhile since I logged onto SCH. With new job assignment and home selling/buying to our dream house, it’s been an absolute roller coaster for 2018. I hope everyone has had a great turkey season. My season was off to a horrible start with missing the first two weeks of the season...

    D16 bucks moving around

Went out yesterday afternoon and found a lot of solo bucks starting to show some interest in does. Counted a total of 19 does and 5 bucks. Couple of the bucks I saw in bachelor groups a week ago are broken up and running around by themselves now. D16 opener should be pretty good.

    Anyone know these guys?

my friend got these guys on trail cams, trespassing his property. The guys walked past posted signs and onto his driveway. Hope it's no one on here.

Anyone seeing poults on the ground yet?

a friend of mine near campo had a single hen with 5 poults on his property before the weekend rain. Unfortunately today, the hen came back to his property with only 1 baby. I'm guessing the other 4 died due to the cold wet weather. Anyone else seeing poults?

    Old circle toes

what a season... before I start with the story a little background on this gobbler. I been chasing him on and off since opening week. I was able to get his little brother earlier in the season but he's been giving me the slip day after day. I think I have hunted him a total of 10 to 12 solid...

    Great news for dog runners

i just got a text from my friend up north and looks like GPS tracking units have been voted legal for use on hounds. The F&G commission unanimously voted to legalize its use. I'm really surprised it passed even though the Anti's fieriously voiced their insane opinion against it.

heres some photos of a pair of jakes and a few hens out of camera range at the Cotton wood golf course in Rancho San Diego. It's great to see birds in these odd places.

Something I noticed this turkey season.

So after today's hunt, it really set things in perspective for me. After hunting MCC opening weekend and Monday, I called in over 30 jakes. With so many jakes, I got to thinking that possibly the mature gobblers are getting run out by the larger bands of jakes. Today I noticed the two long...

    No way it's this easy

I'm at a loss of words but I think I may have had the fastest, easiest hunt I have ever had in the 20+ years chasing these birds. I had work obligations for a few hours in the morning so I packed some camies with me in the truck and after a couple boring hours in court, I drove up to a public...

    Primos Jelly Head Choke

SOLD!!!! I recently switched chokes on my Mossberg 935 turkey gun so I have my Primos Jelly Head up for sale. I had a great pattern with it using Hevi Shot magnum blend 3.5in and shot a gobbler out to 60 yards one season. Asking $25. Shot approximately 15 rounds through it. Fits Mossberg 935/835.

    Turkey hunting clothing

Since I managed to lose a few extra unneeded pounds, I started cleaning out some of my camo clothing that is too big for me. I have a long sleeve shirt and cargo pants combo in my favorite turkey hunting pattern. I used this set of Missy Oak Obsession camo set for one season. It's a XL size...

    Public area gobblers

took a hike out this afternoon with my kid and found some really good turkey sign on public land. Found a lot of feeding signs, gobbler droppings, strut marks, and heard some gobbles as birds went up to roost. I saw a few jakes there so I really hope they make it through to become longbbeards...

Loss of a good hunting dog

Had to say good bye to my awesome retriever, Hana. She slept all day and wouldn't come to us so when we took her to the vet, we were told she had an enlarged heart and wouldn't make it through the night. Hana was an awesome lab as I trained her myself and hunted with her when I duck and...

    A22 buck

Well after spending few days a week chasing couple of forkies on MCC, I finally connected with a buck that I missed twice last week. This buck is not a huge buck but it's a special buck to me as it's been nearly 16 years since I last arrowed a buck. I was surrounded by deer since day break and I...

    Fall Turkey Public Announcement

Hi everyone, with fall turkey season opening tomorrow I would like to remind those who plan on hunting San Diego county that our turkey population is still at a critical low. That being said I would ask those hunting to pass on hens and young birds. We don't have any rains coming in for awhile...

Limited out... Well my son did.

Just got home from a hunt but we managed to get a real old, smart tom to cross the road. I will have details soon but my 8yo son out did me this season and got his limit. So far the bird has a 10.5in beard, 1.5in spur/1in spur, and weighed in at 21 pounds and a couple pennies.

    San Diego hog eradication efforts

Figure some would love to see the BS used to justify using millions of tax payer dollars. The info in the article is just down right hilarious. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/apr/20/pigs-feral-eradicate-backcountry/
