CWA requests your help in supporting a proposal before the California Fish and Game Commission that would add 5 more days of duck hunting to the 2019/20 season.
The proposal would allow hunting within the Balance of State, Southern San Joaquin and Southern California Zones through January 31st. The 5 additional days of hunting would occur from January 27-31.
As most hunters are aware, waterfowl hunting in most zones is generally better late in the season (i.e. January) as evidenced by daily harvest data on National Wildlife Refuges and State Wildlife Areas.
Because the January 31st proposal increases hunting opportunity, it could aid in hunting recruitment, retention and reactivation (R3) efforts. It may also incentivize private duck clubs, including those operated as managed wetlands and post-harvest flooded agricultural fields (e.g. rice, corn), to maintain flooded habitat on their property for a longer duration of time.
The January 31st duck season proposal would still allow the post-season youth hunt to occur up to two weeks later to help ensure a quality hunt for junior hunters.
Thank you for your assistance.
