Antler growth and damage....6-21-23

I've always assumed bucks that have a broken antler, broke them while fighting....And, I'm guessing for the most part, that is probably true....But, I got these trail cam pix of a buck in the velvet that has just broken off his beam on his left side (G-2?)...He's obviously still growing bone....So, eventually he's only going to have one beam on that side....Interesting.....:blush:

He may end up looking like this guy from the same area..... ;)

Ive heard their horns are real sensitive when in velvet. Makes you wonder if he was running from a cat or something.
