With ducking so slow, I thought I would check out some of my old Gambel quail spots last Friday.....The one covey had over a 100 birds in it.....The other about 35.....All on public land.

It was late, so I didn't chase them, but if I feel better, I hope to get after them this week.

    Fred,

These birds don't get hunted much, if at all.....Last year this same covey had about 50 birds.

Spring rain is when it really matters.....These birds nest all summer.

Pretty much a banner year for gambles, the birds in the valley are not rain dependant like California quail are. Early warm humidity and bugs play a bigger roll i think. Water is always around the agriculture.

They are freaking hard to hunt. Masters of flushing opposite side of a bush

Very cool, go get em Steve. Those suckers are tough hunting.. they always seem to get into a ditch or deep cover faster than I can get to em.

Well healing up slowly. Ready to do some hiking. I like to get a few before the season is over. Went to IV Saturday. Beautiful day.

Next time don't put any quail on it and it won't be as easy for people to find them...
