Went rabbit hunting it was a bust. But before coming home I had my 8 year old put 5 rounds though his single shot .410. The gun kicks like a mule problem is he is so small that it is the only gun that fits him. I will be buying him a 20ga semi auto this year but the length of pull is the killer he is just a small kid. Any recommendations his savage rascal 22 fits him great but all the youth shot guns are to big? He will be getting his hunting license next month has all the drive, patience and brains to hunt but his size is gonna hold him back. Still funny watching him shoot the .410, I was proud that he put 5 rounds through it first one got his shoulder good.

Just cut the butt down and add a good pad it will help......as he grows get another butt to fit him and repeat

Single shot 410's & 20's are notorious kickers. Be careful having a small child shoot them. It can cause many bad habits down the road.

This is just my 2 cents......If he's too small for a small shotgun. Then he's probably to small to be shooting one......Wait till he gets a little bigger. Then get him a youth 870 and put a Limbsaver on it. Also, I think it's Escort or one of the lesser know companies that has a smaller framed shotgun.....Buy the lowest powered shells there are to start. I was a big kid and still didn't start shooting shotguns till I was 11.....I hated my dads .270 because it kicked so much!

Escort youth 20g semi auto. Ours has well over 5000 rounds down range with zero problems and never a misfeed Smallest lop I have found. VERY little felt recoil 22" barrel. My kids including my daughter shouts it fine she has been shooting it since she was 7. Killed lots of dove with it and it's light enough they all learned proper form. No leaning back nothing like that. It also as a 3" chamber and I even like it as a pond jumping duck gun.
