So I know the PCT hikers get away with camping in National Forest. Does anyone know specifics on if we can camp as hunters? My hopes are to back pack into an area to hunt. I intend on being in D16.... and that’s all I’m telling ya lol

I believe the limit is two weeks in any one spot before you have to move.

You can look at the website for your particular ranger district and it will say whether a (free) dispersed camping permit is required. The reason they usually want a permit requested is so they know where to look for someone if something (e.g. a fire) is approaching.
Last time I submitted for a permit they called me after my camp out and said “sorry for our delay, we hope you still went camping.” But as a good citizen I’ll be submitting for another dispersed camping permit in the near future.

yes permits are free, just plan ahead to avoid the mess. but one may stay out without a permit. do it at your own risk and dont be obvious.

ps. prepare for fire ants. i had a cocoon set up and with out that id probably would have been eaten up. so bring raid as a perimeter spray and seal ur self up.

#1 RULE, always let someone know on a map where you will be and when you will return. Always makes me feel a whole lot better knowing my body will be found dead or alive if God forbid something happens. Permits are available and pretty easy to obtain. I have had good luck bush camping, the biggest problem I see being is people going to big with fires, a big no no as well as bringing unwanted attention to where you are. I only make fire in winter months out of necessity rather than want, keeping it very small.
