Hi
I’m new to deer hunting and I wanted to have my first hunt be close to home and decided that San Gorgonio was a good place to start. Any areas or locations in this area to start scouting would be greatly appreciated.

Cole,

Welcome to SCH.....1st let your fingers do the walking.....OnX Maps, forestry maps, and BLM maps will give you a start.....Then fine tune with walks.....Good luck.

Like Steve said, e-scout as much as you can stand then check out those areas in person. I’ve personally seen deer there so I can tell you they are there...look for food and water as starting points. A major part of the fun of deer hunting is trying to figuring them out. Definitely go to old threads and read what others have said about deer hunting in general.

Last thing, you need a permit to enter the wilderness so make sure you fill it out before you head in...you don’t want a ticket.

On another note.....The biologist (Kevin Brennan) for that area attends my super bowl party.....Great source of info.

PS.....John Massie also attends the party.....The guy knows San Diego Co. like the back of his hand.....He's the reason we have turkeys.

You have to get a permit just to *ENTER* there? Seriously? I'm asking because in the place I go to. You need a permit IF you stay overnight, but not to go in for just the day. I'd be very surprised if the rules in that regard were different. Since the point is, they want that info so they can know when they pass by your car and run your plates... that they know your car is there and parked because it's waiting for you to return, and not because you are now a point of concern for them to start acting upon, in terms of searching and possibly rescue.

How lame, looks like they are saying you can't clear any shooting lanes.
