Let's see those 1st turkeys

This is an off topic but since getting a turkey on public land has become tough in SD, I wonder what our success rate is, similar to how CDFW compiles success rates for deer tags. I figure jakes get taken a whole bunch, but I wonder what the rate is for mature toms? D16 hovers in the 8-12% range, I'm thinking turkey might be slightly higher than that, but maybe less than 20% on public? Sorry.. rambling here.. got turkeys on my mind now.

I am pretty sure the D16 % includes both public and private land...but at the same time I kind of don't want to know the percentages. They may make you lose hope and give up a tad to soon.

MAYBE it would stop people from coming all together. MORE FOR US

My wife's first bird, 2017. Taken in San Diego on public land. This thing was a fatty! (not my wife.... the bird)
Right now she's pregnant and her due date is April 9. She did mention that she wanted to catch the tail end of the season this year if she's feeling well by then haha!

Beautiful bird.

I hope she hammers one this year. Maybe I will see if my wife wants to hunt one this year. When they hit dispersal she might be able to shoot one off the back deck. Easy pack out.

1st and 2nd Turkey. Both taken within 30 seconds of each other in Kona Hawaii. Had 50 plus hens on a fly down with a handful of long beards. The 1st one I shot came in as a loaner from the opposite direction of the fly down. Then two others came running to see the 1st one flopping around. This hunt by the way...I won it at the San Diego NWTF banquet when it was being held out at Vejas.

Nice.. you didn't shoot those off the Makalei golf course right? Lol.. tons of turkey up there on the fairways and the boys in upland Kona clean up as well. Nice ones.

Man I wish I could find my Polaroids to put on here. Pretty sure it was 95 or 96 too, Steve.
Scrawny little guy with a goatee and a Kurt Cobain shirt on. Just graduated high school.
