Which bird do you shoot at first?

Hrmm... never waterfowl hunted before... but my initial thought would be shoot the one in the middle... cause if you miss one way or the other you potentially have a chance of hitting the other two birds.

But if I knew my shooting skills were on point... then I'd probably go for the one furthest away from me first.. then start working my way back and eventually try for the closest one, since in the line of time he'd be within range for the longest amount of time.

Well since I am right handed I would start left third bird. Work my way right.
I am assuming a left handed shooter be the opposite.
I by the way I feel there isn't any wrong way as long as it is safe to shoot.

To clarify: The question is more about Bird ID. Longbow, agree safety first.

I double on the greenheads thinking the black duck is a suzie the same way I've passed on mexican ducks only to see them shot by somebody else.

Well, since we're in Calif. and there no restrictions on black ducks here I'd just go left to right. In fact, a black duck would be better because it wouldn't count toward your 2 hen mallards then.

For sure I would double up on the green and while I was doing that my brother would have whiffed on the black duck with three shots. I would proceed to laugh at him and not even turn my gun towards the "suzie".

Closest greenhead probably.. or maybe I pass to wait on some spoons??

Funny story. We can only shoot 6 ducks in the central flyway and 5 of them can be mallards. I had already shot 5 mallards one day and there was NOTHING else but mallards. I was praying for a 6th duck of some species. Here comes a group of 50 or so mallards and a single drake spoonbill in the group. I have never tried so hard to kill a spoonbill in my life. He stuck in with those mallards so tight... I think he was confused. Multiple passes and I could not safely pick him out.
