Adventure....

I'd like to clarify something before going forward. I'm an average Joe blue collar dude. I'm blessed and very very very fortunate to have retired at a young age and am physically able to to these type hunts. I am able to go on these DIY hunts because i learned how to do it on a lean budget and i prioritize.... 17 year old truck, don't buy toys for myself, ect... this was my 11th DIY hunt to Alaska. About 15 years ago i decided to quit talking about it and "just do it".

What I'm trying to say is that this kind of trip is obtainable for most that want to do it. I've helped many do trips like this and i will help you... you gotta ask questions if you're seriously interested.

Every trip is a different adventure... this one challenged us in many ways.... weather, big Kodiak Brown bears, scent control... Ed F20190906_071957.jpg

Couldn't agree more and congrats to you, sounds like you earned it.

I cringe when I hear guys complaining about how expensive hunting and hunting equipment is but they buy new trucks every few years and dump thousands into them. Priorities...

Kodiak Island is roughly 4000 driving miles from my house... so i fly... for free with an Alaska Airlines Visa card. I take all my own gear, plus we rent some gear up there (cooking tent, cots, table and chairs) for a comfortable camp. A float plane dropped us off at a lake , 100 miles from the nearest road. In 11 days we saw about 5 planes, 3 boats and one Coast Guard helicopter. Ed F20190904_075912.jpg20190904_081412.jpg

We landed on a beautiful lake, set up camp and hike to the top of the mountains 1200-1500'. From our camp we can access 3 different mountain ranges within a 2 hour hike through the boggy tundra. This is the most physical hunt I've ever done. You're either hiking, killing deer or packing deer meat. You pray for a bad weather day so you can rest... we had 4 bad weather days. Ed F20456.jpeg
