    Granola Head?

While surfing on this site one of my kids saw TopBuck's slogan and asked me what a "granola head" is. Not satisfied with my explanation I found this definition: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=granola%20head I have decided that I despise granola heads too. What's...

    Tagged out.

After getting the news that the big 3x I was after during archery season was killed last Thursday by another hunter (turned out to be a 3x4 green score at 127 5/8"), I decided to tag out on this nice 3x3. I hesitated to shoot him as I knew he wasn't a contest winner but he sported a pair of 3"...

Let's Talk Politics! SoCal Hunting Politics that is.

I posted this as a reply on another thread and BuckHunter asked me to move it up here. (BTW - My mother told me never to talk about politics or religion, but I never was a very good listener.) From Santiago's "Suggestions Please" thread: Personally I'd like to hear more about the local...

    D16 Buck down!!!!

Hey gang, A buddy of mine played hooky from work today and nailed his first D16 buck in 8 years with an easy shot at 78 yards. Buck down!!! He's on his way to Jim the Butcher now. Not a bad way to spend your Tuesday morning. Its a 2x3 about 16" wide.

    Case of the blood-belly doe.

Hey gang, I took these pictures off of the trail camera and noticed this doe with a fawn that appears to have a red belly and some red fur on her front left armpit area. I'm wondering if she was shot by an arrow and is bleeding or if its something else like the lighting on the fur or a glitch...

    Hawk nails squirrel

So I was out bow hunting on Saturday and saw this hawk patiently waiting by a squirrel burrow hole. I decide to put my long-lens camera on him and 30 seconds later...Bam, I lucked out and caught this on film. (Why should National Geo have all the fun?)

What are you looking for in a shooter buck?

Just curious, with the D16 rifle season 30 days away, what's your definition of a shooter buck? Tell us why? Is it the first legal buck you see or is there another standard you apply? How did you develop your thinking on this? Also, is it more important to you to kill a deer or are you...

    Replacement fall protection straps

Some of my tree stand fall straps are starting to look a little ratty. Anybody know of a good place to buy replacement straps without the harness or tree strap? Local in SD? (ps - this is the component that looks like a car safety belt that has 2" doubled up sections of webbed material.

    Binocular problem

If this just don't beat all. After saying nice things about my Alpen spotting scope in a post last month my three year old Alpen 10x42 binos are on the fritz. While hunting on Sunday I noticed the right ocular won't come into focus. Anybody run into this before? Yes, I'm sending them back...

    Broadhead Safety

I've heard the stories over the years of how someone jacks themselves on their own broadhead and thought, they're just careless, not smart (like me ;D). I don't feel that way anymore. Last weekend I was out hunting with my bow on my back when I suddenly hear an arrow drop and hit a rock. I...

    A22 Opener Report

A22 guys, Give us a report? The opener was a bit disappointing. Too hot!!! It was 95 degrees at 11:00 AM. Deer were bedding down at 7:00 AM. Nothing much moving during the day. Using the spot and stalking approach I saw 14 antlerless, one spike and a brave coyote that got his morning...

    Yuma Doves? Not so much.

After 18 years of 30 minute limits in Yuma I can say with disappointment that our annual Yuma dove hunt was poor. The opener was slow and HOT. Very few birds. The local DFG told us a powerful wind storm blew thru Yuma late last week and scattered the birds. Today we got limits but in took...

    Game Recipes

I need more recipes!!! My kids and I love to eat wild game but my wife hates the taste. As she is the cook at our house this can be a problem. Occasionally, I will bump into a recipe that she likes but its rare. She did like several of the recipes that you have listed on this site. BTW-...
