Hey fellas, so I have a 6.5x284 that is shot out and I am considering trying the “Blackjack Bullets” 131 grain 257. Building a 25x284 on either a Hawk or Proof barrel as they offer a 1-7.5 twist. After doing a little investigating it seems that Sierra is building the bullets for Blackjack. Anyone hear anything in the rumor mill or better yet any experience?

Look at the 6.5-300wby

It pushes copper at a good velocity way down range

Somebody say 257wbymag? I know a guy who has shot copius amounts of xlarge mammals with that round..if there was only one rifle to own....that guy said it would be the 257wbymag.

What kind of speed do you think you can get out of it ? What is the G1 BC of that bullet ?

With my 6.5x284 with 127 LRX’s I’m getting 3126. I would think you would be about 100fps under that.

The 257 Weatherby is king of the 25's, It may not be the most accurate but it does inflict the most damage at any range. If given the choice 115 lead Nosler's are the way to go. They explode on impact and are unforgiving. Roy Weatherby always said it was his favorite cartridge because of how it knocked animals down bar none.

Its the 120np,s for this large mammal hunter! Menacing.

24” barrel I would love to see 3100 not sure if I’m dreaming tho. BC is 330 G7 above 2500fps

Chris, I think you will get 3100 fps for sure. It's a high pressure cartridge with a bullet that has a short surface bearing profile. Slow powder should make it happen. I am thinking RL26 or IMR 7977.

Spoke to Blackjack, they recommend a 284 win gauge. Is that good with you? I can order one if need be?

I will check and see if we have one...
115 Nosler's loaded to max accuracy and speed as I said before, you will be amazed at the carnage...

A .257 caliber 131 grain bullet at 3140 fps with a .333 G7 BC is a completely different world than the 115 Nosler Partition out of a 25-06. While the old Nosler does it's job out to 350-400 yards on thin skinned animals, the 131 bullet in the 25x284 is a beast way beyond 400. And is a legitimate 1000 yard target cartridge.

Can't wait to see Chris240's build come to life!
