8/31 long range match / prs match
Got my ass kicked again, but had a blast!

Santa margarita gun club had a 1k yard fclass match and a prs style match on sat. Big turn out for the prs match with steel targets out to 1k.

The long range match was shot on electronic targets. A first for me and I'll say I love them! Not having to do pit duty is very nice. Conditions were tricky and I don't feel so bad about my scores.

Was holding 5min of wind on average that's 50" with constant 1.5+ min wind shifts. Watching the better shooters read the wind was educational.

You guys that want to learn the long range game really should come out. You can shoot anything on the prs course.

Ok so for the naked in class part I'll post my scores as recorded by the electronic target system. Second relay had a glitch so last shots didn't record right for display. You can see what happens if you shoot to fast trying to beat the wind. As the barrel got hot my sd went to crap. The first relay was shot slower and had a sd of 14. I'm learning

So you get what size the targets are the x ring is 5" 10 ring is 10, 9ring is 20"

first string was unlimited sighters then 30 min for record, the others were 2 sighters and 20 min for record so more or less one per min.

here is the stage 3 results so you can get a feel for what everyone did. of particular note is Mike Nies who was shooting sling with peep sights. for you guys who do not know what that is. you lay on the ground in a jacket with a sling wrapped around your arms. the gun fully supported by you. NO REST NO NOTHING and NO SCOPE just a peep sight on front and rear of the barrel. His target is twice the size of the Fclass target so his 10 ring is 20" His 3rd string he only dropped 3 points. would love to see anyone on SCH hit a 20" circle at 1k yards pretty much every time while holding 5min or more of wind

that list is a mix of F open , any caliber and any rest, FT/R 308/556 on bipods and one guy slung.

no but it was all 10s with three 9s and a bunch of x's

with the electronic targets you can watch the other shooters in real time... its a trip and odd to have your face in your phone while out shooting lol

Im interested in doing some long range competitions, how do I keep track and find events ?

a few places, sucks there is no single place to keep an eye out
The shoots in Taft are great.. they will happen again once deer season is over. @TaftHunter

there are a few mid range matches but i do not shoot them up by the range near castaic lake
