I have never been the one doing the shooting but I was the one getting shot. Two of us were hunting quail at the base of the Piute Mts. we broke a nice covey and we each took out after different birds from the covey. After being separated for some time, I was walking uphill with some heavy cover on my right when I heard and felt a shot. He was about 50 yards below me and had no idea I was there and I didn't know exactly where he was, he swung on a bird, most of the shot was stopped by the dense brush but enough got through to knock me on my ass. I got hit in the back right side of my head. He pulled a dozen #6 shot from my head. of course he felt terrible. It was a pure accident. the cover in that area goes from semi dense to very dense and it's hard to see much beyond the cover in front of you. We were both wearing orange vest because it was rifle deer season at the time. I wrote it off as pure accident, if I had got hit in the face it could have cost me an eye or worst. By the way he did get the bird. Sometimes shit does happen.
