Hiked down to Loveland today where I grew up fishing. The lake has been drained completely and fish are piling up on the shore. Only 2-3 foot remaining and you can see the bottom, thousands of fish fighting for room. In one of the photos you can see all the carp. When these reservoirs are drained they quickly fill with sand from the bank and become shallow. Unfortunately this eco system has been decimated.

Unreal to see that lake gone.

San Diego has been in a perennial drought since the 1990's. Our loathsome loser woke politician's have had ample opportunity to get off their thumbs and act, but have always decided not to act and just raise the cost of the water to the consumer, to penalize us into cutting back.

By now, we should have 5-7 Desalinization plants in San Diego and infrastructure actively pumping freshwater to our back country reservoirs and lakes. Unfortunately, there has not been any political will to manage our most precious resource. Rest assured, the blame finger will eventually come out and point to US, likely when we have no water to fight back country fires.

Fire suppression is a very legit concern

@KoozeDeer thanks for posting the pictures, really puts into perspective the destruction to Loveland. Loveland was used during the Valley Fire for helo drops. Nearest water source is Dehesa sand pits, dout they would use Palo Verde.

Truly disappointed to see it go!! Parents still live off Tavern… spent so many years fishing there from shore. Some of the best shore fishing… when it would flood the brush in spring… pitching creature baits was a blast! And the sunrises on a saturday spring morning were the best!
