top water fishing road trip

Doug,

1st off, Rooster tails and Rapala's aren't really topwater lures....Topwater fishing is mostly a post spawn bite....Really early summer....Early morning, late evening.....When the shad start coming to the surface is the time.

Down here in San Diego, I've had a pretty decent topwater bite in the last few years with Pop R's, buzz baits, and baby spooks at El Capitan....Hodges may break loose this year too.....Castaic, Casitas, Piru, DVL, and Skinner have never been good topwater lakes IMO (Vail Lake was awesome).....May want to consider Lake Isabella in the summer.
