Non membership rifle range?

I would like to resight my rifle, but I can’t seem to find a public range with a 500 yard lane. All I really need is 400 yards, but I’m not gonna gripe if it’s longer.

I’m willing to travel a hundred miles +\- a few miles. I live right by San Jacinto preserve.

You’re best option is ocotillo.

I’m not sure of the legal aspect. Ocotillo is in Riverside county, which to my knowledge doesn’t allow solid trajectory target shooting.

Where I do know it is legal, is north of I-40 or Hwy 58 in the Mojave.

I tried looking for that place once (after leaving your place) and I couldn’t find it. I stopped at the casino gas station, and asked a couple locals... they had no idea.

I was down in ocotillo, a couple months ago shooting at targets with out a problem, as long as you have a backstop.

If you're sighting-in, meaning you're not taking many shots anyway. Just enough to get it done. You can more than likely "get away with it" on public lands somewhere as long as you're savvy and opt to do it where you've hiked in a bit, and it's in an area you know seldom, if ever, gets anybody passing thru in there. And make sure you park your vehicle such that it is not visible from the road.

Or if that is not possible, that your vehicle is parked in a "popular" place to park but that you hike a darn long ways away from there to do your setup. So that way if green jeans passes by and sees your vehicle it's not out of the ordinary and spike their interest.

But typically, on public lands, you can't "target shoot", which is what they'd consider it. You *can* use firearms for the purposes of lawfully pursuing game though.

Weird right? It's like, OK, so how are new hunters supposed to learn how to make these shots, right?
 
Why do you need 500yds to sight in your rifle? Is that your 0? Pala is very easy to find 760-292-6213. They allow non members it's $35, call for days/hours for the public.

400 yards will be my max, but I would like to sight it, and practice different yardages.
