Tom Trakes took this photo of a sign on Davis road yesterday. If you can go to this meeting and voice your opposition it will help

For you kids that aren't political, you better start....This development company is relentless...And have been trying for years to build next to San Jacinto Wildlife Area...It's the one time that the bird watchers and hunters are in the same camp...Go Sue Nash & Tom Paulek!

ps....San J is one of two Type A waterfowling areas in all of Southern California....We lose this, duck hunting will soon be a distant memory.

Not to be a nay sayr but good luck on stopping the mega bucks developer folks.

Fred,

They're stopped them for years....My guess is that they finally found the right politician to push this through (sadly, probably a republican).....You know, they're for big business and money....Time will tell.....

It's been what? 15 years, give or take, and SJ can't get the Potrero Unit opened due to EIR, general plan, and other such red tape but this crap will go through in a couple years max if not sooner.

That is probably because some developer would like to own Portrero as well...

Just a little more (but not much more than has already been posted really) info here. EVERYBODY that can attend this meeting needs to go and support SJ. Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 9 am, 4080 Lemon Dt., Riverside, CA. Details below...

Yes it sucks that they scheduled it for a work day but like the article says eventually hunting will be no more if this goes through. It will not be immediate but remember Otay Lake. Everyone thought since it wasn't right on the lake who cares...Once the houses went in hunting went out

Anybody remember the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, some called it Fish Canyon. They built houses up to about a 1/4 mile from it and it was finally shut down due to complaints of the noise and "safety" concerns (even though the gunfire was directed at a mountainside away from any houses). Now, if you want to go to a range in that area you have to drive up to Burro Canyon. I can just about guarantee you that as soon as people move in there the complaints will start and they will shut hunting down at SJ because the ignorants in charge don't know that 150 yards is about the max for a shotgun to be dangerous. They'll close it for "Safety concerns" because there is gunfire within a half mile. The secondary reason will be the early morning disturbance from late October to late January every Saturday and Wednesday morning.

Remember too, that hunting is way down the list of important uses for the wildlife area.....In fact, the way I read this it will have no impact on bird watching hiking trails, and such.....If we lose it, it will never come back.

Ramona Duck Club, Mystic Duck Club, and others better get on this too.....They'll be next.

Steve's right...we can't take the "this will hurt the hunting community" approach...focus on the harm it will bring to the various species that call the area home...

I don't know....just pissed...

Yup it is definitely tough to stop the developers. The only way I have seen it happen is when a wildlife group of some kind can prove how it could endanger some type of native species of wildlife. So as Steve and others have mentioned conservation and prevention of encroachment should be the main strategy. jmo

the only way to stop this is conservation, endangered plants and wildlife. it our best tool. this so much what they did in McCain Valley. and other areas. I don't duck hunt now but I may want to in the future. look at the wildlife there and that would be our best bet.

I'll try to make it. I'll bring photos of the threatened red diamond back rattlesnakes I've encountered. I don't hunt ducks but I do frequent the rabbit, quail and dove areas of San Jac.

Build a mosque out there or a shrine to Buddha. Then all those leaf waters won't touch that place. Double bonus when ducks ain't flying take out some ISIS sympathizers.
Problem solved, problem staying solved. Honey Badger ou!
