This past weekend I was fortunate enough to go on a guided pig hunt on Jacks Ranch in Shandon California. I went with my dad, uncle and my grandfather and let me tell ya......we had a blast. After a long, hard worked deer season and no success, it felt good to finally tag out. The first day we probably saw close to 50 pigs, and I got to watch my dad harvest a really nice sow. The second evening i was able to stalk into a nice group of pigs and take out the lead boar of the group. At 150 yards, I dropped my boar with a shoulder shot that broke the shoulder and passed through the heart and a lung. All in all it was a great experience and a memory I will never forget.

Outstanding Job Gmghunt101! Lets hear some details on your rifle and your shot!

Very nice ranch. Rolling hills, all green.
Great just to be out there. The hogs are like icing on the cake for that family outing.

To add some more details, my pig was shot with my Ruger All -American 7mm-08. The bullet was 120 grain barnes copper bullet. We spotted the pigs in a fresh planted barely field from about 750 yards away. The guide told me that there were multiple nice sows in the group and it would be worth a try. We were able to use an old ranch road to get the truck to about 400 yards from the group. We then noticed a lead boar prevailing himself from a tree line, working his way into the field. We left on foot from there and worked with the wind in our favor and tried to intercept this boar as it crossed the field. At about 200 yards from the pig we got down and got the sticks set up for the shot. The pig began to feed and had no clue we were there and with the wind in our face, we figured it would be smart to sneak in closer. We crawled with the sticks ready for another 50 yards closer. The pig became alarmed and began looking around as if he detected something. As soon as he went back to feeding the guide told me it was time for the shot. I squeezed the trigger and watched the impact of the bullet hit the front shoulder through my scope. The pig spun around to bolt but met the ground instead. He kicked for a few seconds and then bit the dust. Later we could see how the bullet broke the front shoulder and when through the heart and part of a lung. The copper bullets never seem to cease to amaze me on the damage they can do.

Outstanding hunt and story. Way to follow through and watch the impact. That is well done my man!
