Hey guys and girls I'm about to make a big investment to my hunting gear and I'm looking for a nice set of binoculate and I'm looking for some help I'm stuck between the vortex viper hd series and the leuplod bx-4 McKinley series. Also don't know what magnification to get them I'm I would be using them mostly for long range scouting. 10×50 or 12×50 or 15×50
Thanks for you thoughts.

Conventional wisdom is 10x or 8x. Any more magnification results in image blurring from hand motion. I can't comment on either of those models.

I use Nikon Monarch 5s, which are pretty good for the price point.

+1
Before you buy them, look through them and compare them to other brands. Poorly made glass will be harder on your eyes so you'll feel the difference in eye strain pretty quickly. Side by side comparison will make differences more apparent to you.

Agreed anything more than 10x you will want to put them on a tri pod. I put my 10x on a tripod last week in Idaho and they worked much better than holding them. At that price point take a look at the Zen Ray's.

I think it depends on the terrain you are hunting. If you do a lot of long distance glassing 12x might work better for you.. I have 10x's and they work alright for me.

I just started using a tripod for binos and it's a game changer. It's like you get another factor of 2-3 in magnification.

I use Swarovski's now, but I liked my Vortex products a lot....In fact, still use the lighter Vortex Diamondbacks at times.

One pair is never enough......for quick glassing short distances and around your neck 10x but for big country many miles in front of you 15's with a tripod or something to hold it still even shooting sticks will help but not as nice as a tripod.

Agree with all the above. I still love my 12x50 Leupold Mojaves, and with a tripod like Primos trigger stick I see more details than the guides I'm with. But I have some Zeiss Conquest HD 10x42's for smaller terrain and looking through trees.

In case anyone was thinking about a tripod, this is what I use and it's perfect for me

FWIW, I bought this adapter for half the price. They are all roughly the same design, and I think the 1/4-20 screw is standard on most binos.

I'm using the pro II with this adapter for the binos.
