Colorado Elk Hunt!

I drew a 3 point rifle unit in CO so today was the day to hit the road. My wife is joining me for the drive there with some sight seeing along the way. She will fly back Friday and my season opens Saturday. It looks like we will have great weather. Stay tuned for updates! The 6.5manbunImproved is ready to EAT and I am hungry!

Got here and shot the rifle. Both rounds touching at 203. Unbelievable.

Ended up glassing a nice 5x6 last night (season opened this AM). He was one of those really cool 5’s on one side that doesn’t grow a 6th, I really like that look. You cant see that well in the photo. Tried to make a play this AM but couldn’t turn him up. I had 3x rag horns in range though, one was at 20 yards. It’s always incredibly to watch em that close. Went the rest of today without seeing an elk.

Sunday AM we located a few bucks. One was pretty nice so went down to a couple of local guys we met who had a deer tag. Ended up putting them on the buck and helping them get him out.

Ended up going out with a friend of a friend in camp who also has an elk tag. We put the sneak on a few bulls hitting a high mountain meadow. After about 10 mins of us both trying to line up shots simultaneously and subsequently neither of us had a shot. We decided whoever got the next shot to let it fly. Sure enough I hear his safety click off and the 338L blew me halfway off the mountain. We weren’t sure if he hit anything but upon further inspection… success!

I’m still on the hunt for my bull.
