This season proved to be many firsts for me. In the last 10 days, I was fortunate enough to harvest 3 deer; 2 bucks in Arkansas and my G-13 antler-less here in San Diego (D-16).

I'm still fairly new to hunting (5th year), and the San Diego muley has eluded me up until yesterday. I've had near successes the last 3 years, but everything just seemed to work out mid morning on November 1. I missed opener weekend due to traveling, but I can't complain cause I was hunting out of state. This was my first day out this season (PRE SCOUTING TOTALLY PAID OFF!). Her belly was stuffed with acorns fyi. It all went down mid morning, probably 73 degrees outside, and a howling ENE wind. Heart and lung shot at 70 yards. Public Land!

Last week I went to the in-laws in Arkansas with my bow. I bought a Hoyt Powermax last December, so this was my first season with a bow. The whitetail run rampant on their property, and I'm lucky enough to bag one pretty much every time we visit them, so it seemed to be the perfect stage setup to work on the uncontrollable body shakes from seeing bucks up close. This 8 pointer was shot at 17 yards, and I nearly blacked out once the arrow left my bow. He didn't go far! He ran maybe 60 yards and I heard him crash in the bushes. The dogs helped us find him, but the thick blood trail was a gimme haha!
My father in law and I made deer sausage for days and ate deep fried backstrap nuggets nearly every night.

So blessed this season!

.243 with a 3x9 Leupold. It has clear glass, but it doesn't have BDC or mil dot reticles, so its a little tricky shooting long distance right now. My father in law gave it to me, and its better suited for thicker woods and shorter distances like hunting Arkansas pines and hardwoods. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade my scope in the near future.

Dude. Good job. That is a great WT buck. You married up for sure.
