Drove out to el centro this morning hoping to get some dove and try my quail spot out since quail close to san diego has been slow for me. First thing in the morning spooked up a small covey of 4 or 5 birds and got one. Chased down the others and another covey flushes on the opposite side. Took 3 shots but I landed this nice male. Let the birds gather together for a hour and picked up one more. No doves were I was at all.

I tried one ditch for the illusive pheasant. To the left was a ditch and the right a field. Wasnt thinking id see one but sure enough. I was looking in the ditch kicking rocks and this figure was in the corner of my eye. Thought it was a cotton tail. Ended up being a bright gold pheasant. long birds, bigger then I thought they were. Heart pounding I ran towards the brush he was in and poof. Gone. I must have blocked that area in for 30 mins. Never saw him again. Cool to see one up close.

Anyways. Fun day. No dove but id rather chase a couple quail down then shoot dove anyday.
