Yeah the does were on our way to a glassing point in the early morning after our first spot got over run by people, and yeah we hiked in off the road still nothing today unfortunately, I think the fires and bulldozers may have pushed them further south which is our game plan for tomorrow...
We saw a doe and fawn about 5 feet off the road but didn't see anything else all day, too many people out there today where we were. Anyone have any tips beside heading out maple spring road to the ridge lines between lake Forest and carona?

Wow those look fantastic we will scout those areas first. Do you recommend hiking off road there or is it more important to cover a lot of ground? In Arizona it was beneficial to take the trails to a promising spot then hike about 1 to 2 miles off that.

My brother and I have been mule deer hunting in Arizona a few times but decided to try our luck in CA this year. Does anyone have any advice on differences we might see compared to southern AZ? Obviously we are going to do a lot of scouting between now and November but you can't beat...
It could be a skunk hole, look around the area for the emergency exit hole so you don't turn around to a spray. I have stupidly thrown sticks in hole like that and 15 feet away a big skunk came shooting out of a different hole, luckily running away instead of spraying me as I deserved.
