Do any other Western States have “Wister like” refuges?

Thanks NBK. I actually loved Wister and even SJ. Nothing about it was guaranteed. Some days were great. Some days we never fired our guns. I liked the fact that I had my own spot and I did not have to beg for it from a private party landowner. It was predictable and a great experience.

Do any other Western States have “Wister like” refuges?

Thank you Chessie! Umatilla sounds like exactly what I am looking for! I will check this out. Do you know if they have assigned blinds like Wister?

Do any other Western States have “Wister like” refuges?

Thanks. Are they very crowded? Are there any specific ones you would recommend for a person without a dog or boat?

Do any other Western States have “Wister like” refuges?

No disrespect. But, don’t want to bother private individuals to hunt on their property. I would hate it if I owned property and people were constantly bugging me for access. Besides, as this area grows, I expect that fewer and fewer landowners will be willing to do this. So, it doesn’t seem...

Do any other Western States have “Wister like” refuges?

Thanks. I live in Eagle near Boise. I have been to Ft. Boise, Montour WMA, CJ Strike WMA, and Payette WMA. Opening day, it is a nightmare getting a spot. And, after just 2 days, there really isn’t any birds. The water is deep. So, you need a dog in most spots. If you have no patience...

Do any other Western States have “Wister like” refuges?

I moved from CA to ID two years ago. I used to hunt Wister and SJ constantly. As evil as CA is, I never knew how good I had it at Wister. I’m still glad I escaped Hellifornia. But, I do miss Wister and SJ. Quite frankly, duck hunting in ID sucks. We have WMAs. But, they are crowded and...

What other Western States have a reservation system like CA?

I moved from Southern CA to Boise, ID two years ago. I had no idea how good I had it hunting Wister and SJ. Even though I only got a few draws per year, I could always sweatline Wister on a Wednesday and get a spot. The beauty of the CA system is you always have a spot to yourself. Idaho has...

    Took a drive to Wister

I escaped Kali too. Wister is literally the only thing I miss from that God forsaken hell hole.

Oregon / Utah - do they have Wildlife Areas with a draw system?

Thanks. Sounds like something worth trying. It’s a 5 hour drive. That’s doable.

Oregon / Utah - do they have Wildlife Areas with a draw system?

Thanks. I spoke to Utah DF&G. There is no reservation system.

Oregon / Utah - do they have Wildlife Areas with a draw system?

Are there public duck hunting spots in Oregon or Utah that have a draw system similar to Wister or San Jacinto? I do not know much about these two states and am starting my research.

Idaho duck hunting - any advice?

I have not seen CJ strike or Hagerman. I just moved to Eagle in June. I scouted Monitor, Payette, and Ft. Boise last weekend. It was very underwhelming. I was planning to drive to Hagerman this weekend. But, now I think my wisest bet will be to learn how to play pickleball (my sarcasm)...

Idaho duck hunting - any advice?

100 yard shots. Now, you are reminding me of San Jacinto! Haha. I appreciate the straight talk even if it is not encouraging. What do you think of the duck hunting at CJ Strike and Hagerman? Is it any better there?

Idaho duck hunting - any advice?

Man. 7 feet apart? If I didn’t know better, it seems like you are describing Niland dove on a WU field opening morning.

Idaho duck hunting - any advice?

Thanks for all the great replies. That really helps. I'll check out Hagerman. Aeon, I agree. I have a healthy respect / fear of the snake river. Unfortunately, I don't own a boat. So, I think the rules out the snake for me. Wister was great. So many good memories. Physically, CA is...
