Grew up as an avid hunter and then moved to San Diego, worked a lot for 30 years and missed the joy of hunting. Was teaching a class on nature preserve and living off of the land and realized how many students had no clue about life outside of a blog. This coincided with my dad giving me back my 20g I had when I was in my early teens. Cleaned it up, got my hunter ed course out of the way, licensed up...bought a 12g and took off back to the desert and hunted some of the fields I grew up in. It may have been 30 years but I hardly missed a beat. Good pattern, good stalk, still respected the land and picked up my brass and though I only shot 6 shots with a new gun I walked away with 5 birds while others on this day had shot 15-30 shots with either nothing or one bird to show. Not bragging on my shots, just felt good to be out. Interested in upland game, Turkey, quail and pheasant are my favorites, miss deer and elk hunting but think I may take my time to get acquainted with people to go out and do that.
