Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

I learn a lot here. OK, so a 20 foot Lund or Lowe will do this and that for me, and my testicles are a wild card for how much more I can do with it. The story of my life.

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

For the record.. we weren't familiar with Buffleheads, and we lost 2 other chances to shoot worrying about species. 2 actually swam right into our decoys, and we still held off. Note that Buffleheads are NOT listed in AZ or CA regulations! And on the river, this, and a millions coots, where all...

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

Hiya, thanks for the input here and this is the conclusion I'm coming to.. Basically, my duck boat can be a freshwater boat, but salt water seems to be something different. I have a hobie tandem sail/kayak which I love.. still... nice to stretch an expensive boat out to as many pastimes as I...

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

Would never have pulled the trigger if I didn't know it was legal. Indeed, if I already had a duck, I would haven't have pulled the trigger unless it was a confirmed mallard or canvasback. I'm new to hunting, but, I'm not an idiot contrary to whatever my wife told you.

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

This strikes me as wise before my time. I do live by the adage "ask for forgiveness and never permission" A married man who doesn't know that lesson married a dude or just got married. I want a duck boat I can also do some salt water fishing, it looks possible, all it takes is a lot of money...

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

I shot it and then had to strangle it when it came back to life. going to eat it of course.. but out of the 3-4 waterfowl cookbooks I have.. there is zero mention of bufflehead. Nothing to do with strangling the poor thing, everything to do with this bourbon and these books.

Is this a Bufflehead? By awful score so far..

I'm a newb here, and to hunting, many of you guys have been shamefully helpful, and I do appreciate it. I've been duck hunting 4 times in my life, got 1 duck last year, a female teal and she was really small (at Henshaw) and some mystery duck which I think is a young Bufflehead (see pic below...

    This Sunday, Wister have #7

The wind was, well, not there. A few gusts here and there, but otherwise totally still. It was odd to come home and see how fierce they were here in north county..

Ah, sorry man, this was just me crossing my wires with a few guys who PM'd me about my 'rezzie.' And look at that - my loss. What a dissapointment! Lost an opportunity to go with someone who knows what they're doing. I'm going again for sure, I have a new rezzie for December 1st, just not sure...

Guys, seriously, can’t tell you how grateful I am to have found this site and be able to bounce lessons off of men with more experience. Really, really appreciate it. if any of you find yourself desperate for beer, bourbon or scotch - I owe you one. Hope to pay it back sometime! Oh, BTW, the...

This is our decoy setup, not sure if there is strategy here, but we basically whipped 'em out there and tried to make a nice spread. Does this look ok, or does this spread of decoys scream "I'm an idiot"? No mallard decoys, but no pintail or wigeon calls either.

Look at them all.. just eating and crapping everywhere. I wanted to shoot so bad I could feel beads of sweat going down my back. It was all downhill from here.

Well... how do you say "I have hundreds of mosquito bites and zero duck meat" but make it sound like a win? Of course, I don't know what a successful duck hunt looks like, my buddy, who has done it only a few times and never at Wister wasn't much better than I was. At 5:50 AM we had 3 ducks...

Ah yes, I've heard you've been there at least a "couple of times" Thanks for the offer of any info. The Sunday thing is a funny one, I would much rather relax after a long week and take my time getting ready for a Sunday hunt, versus go from the work week, to packing, driving, setting up camp...

Just out of curiosity, how did you find out about the SCH website?

Google'ing hunting turkey at Sutherland for the fall.. found some other forum which mentioned this one.

Hi! I've had a few people kinda kick the can a bit, but no takers for this Sunday at Wister. Myself and an old friend are going. But I'm recruiting because, drum roll please, I'm an idiot. I've been duck hunting once, my buddy has a few times, but he's never been to wister. Looking for...

Wister, camping, and no one picks up the phone

Haven't asked anyone, but I do have an old friend going with me who, at least, has duck hunted before. I have not, but will.. Have not, and might not need to. So, um, watcha doin this Sunday!?
