Poway had their annual youth trout fish derby this weekend, so I took my older two kids out. Getting my son (6) ready to do anything is like herding cats except when it comes to fishing. He got his clothes out the night before and his internal clock woke him up an hour before we planned to...
The factory ammo of the 300 PRC would be a solid choice...and the 215 Bergers have killed thousands of elk.
That said, I bet we could get those 199 hammers safely 250 fps faster than the Bergers or ELD-M. If you will never shoot at an elk beyond 700y, I prefer a mono metal w/ the extra...
Lets not derail this thread to much, but you could start a new one. So much debate on this topic, but getting a long range setup lead is better unless you only plan to shoot sub 500y.
It feels like you are pointing a finger at me...except my barrel is carbon fiber :p.
I still have not shot a local deer with my 338 RUM. I think I need to push that 210 gr hammer 3400 fps to get one.
Lol it is like the author did not even read his source other then to get a number. Which basically says they did not pull teeth due to california covid laws, so they used estimates which produced a lot lower number than they believe.
There is always a possibility, especially if I decided I want a lower magnification on my chest. But for the foreseeable future I would only be letting buddies borrow them, so figured I would be better off selling to someone who has been looking for a pair.
My Swaros did not leave my safe last year and were only out for a brief time the year before. I think it is time to move on.
$1700 local, plan on leaving on sch for a couple of weeks for a local discount before I post them elsewhere.
The brass they uses is extremely important too. I typically use all data to come up with a safe starting point, then doing 1gr increments until I hit pressure.
Once I hit pressure sign I back down 1 gr or to closest node, tweaking seating depth and crimp setting for 100y group size.
