    Cartridge Debate

I think it was only like 160 yards…. But I really like that 140 TTSX load from Barnes. Mule deer, elk, Dall rams… they all just fall over dead from inside 100 to 400ish so far. Regarding the “what cartridge is appropriate for elk” debate…. I am definitely not a “bigger is better” guy but I do...

    Effective, but messy.

    GTP-I Tripod weight rating

In my opinion aluminum poles are just no good for off trail use with a heavy pack. They bend and break all the time. With the Sissy sticks, in my opinion they should have made the bottom section carbon and the upper section aluminum. But full carbon is just the better product. I’ve had my BD...

    GTP-I Tripod weight rating

Really glad you went carbon with your product Drew. I’m starting to lose track of how many lower sections of aluminum poles I’ve seen bend or break.

    Beaver

Yeah but tell the good people of SCH what you’re hunting up there! I’ll give you all a hint. It’s white. That narrows it down a bit.

    Sierra Nevada Bighorns

Yep there are 8. There were a total of 10 I counted in the area but I never could get them all in one frame. 2 young rams, 2 lambs and 4 ewes in that pic. Couldn’t find the big boys but I didn’t have any big glass with me either.

    Sierra Nevada Bighorns

Sierra Nevada Bighorns at 12,000 feet last week. Spent a week up there with family running around in the mountains. We hiked to some high lakes one day and I had a hunch they might be up there so I brought the binos and the big lens. Sure enough there they were. They aren't too hard to pick out...

    Stashing water.

I am not sure but if you give it enough time sunlight will destroy anything. Nalgene bottles are probably more stable than disposable bottles because they are designed to last forever vs single use plastic jugs.

    Stashing water.

I have no idea. But I do like that plastic jugs smash down to nothing and weigh basically nothing. When I kill a deer I can pack out everything with basically no space or weight penalty.

    Stashing water.

If you put clear plastic jugs where they will be exposed to UV light day after day you’ll get chemicals leaching into the water. I put the jugs in heavy duty black contractor bags and try and put it somewhere where it will have as little exposure to light as possible. I have stored water for...

    Cali-Draws

    I think it’s like 1 in 3 chance with 7 but with anything higher than 7 it’s 100%.

Frog gigging last night---not a pretty sight

OnX is definitely not using satellite technology to identify water sources for their hunting app. That all just comes from information from surveys. They are just compiling available public information and putting it into a user friendly format.

    Scouting tips.

Off season scouting for me is all about logistics. I’m figuring out how I’m going to get in and out of an area, how long it takes, where there is water or where I’m going to stash water if needed, where I will camp, what roads are open etc…. Deer sign is year round around here. You don’t need to...
