Now that I have hunted up there the last 10 years or so I would say the average day is 3 to 5 geese a gun. These numbers are so easily changed by numerous things, weather, moon and the hunters ability to shoot
I cant sugar coat this but some clients just cant shoot and thats ok. they days...
Once the geese show up they really dont leave Nor Cal. They will move out of the Willows area and slide down to the Delta but pretty much are near by.
The biggest factor is the weather, if we're killing mosquitoes its tough to kill geese. We had great hunts from early December until the last...
We usually start our guided trips in Nor Cal around the first of December, thats typically about the time we start seeing the geese hit the dry fields
The geese are in the dry already, big time which I have never seen this early
Something is definitely different this year
Some birds migrate by the calendar
Some birds migrate by the weather
My buddies North End Salton Sea club has more GWTs than they have ever seen this early.
I took the boat out in LA/LB Harbor this afternoon and it is loaded with Sea Ducks which I usually don't see until Thanksgiving...
Yup, the last year I saw Corvina in the Salton Sea was around 1996. Billy and I were fishing near Bombay and that was the first trip I saw fresh dead Corvina floating dead. They were dying all around us. 25 years ago
So 25 years later, adding ocean water from the Sea of Cortez is now a good idea.......hmmmmmm
Hopefully I don't lose friends over this plan but this is some serious BS. 100s of millions of dollars were completely wasted and likely by the same people who are now saying they have a plan
I pray...
Folks,
Not sure if any of you are aware or know what's going on with the water situation in Northern Cal down to Kern
There will be a 25% to 50% reduction in rice planting depending on what area. There will be no decomp water unless the property has a well.
Clearly this will affect those...
Well as far as kills it was our best season in Nor Cal
Guided trips skyrocketed for Brian and I
900 plus geese, 1 band, lame
Big Als Spec Sillos are awesome
Our 5 day extended season in our area was brutal except the last 3 hours when the So Cal guys finished with a bang
The snows are in big grind mode right now and have been tough to break them apart most days. Most of the time its easier to get 5000 in the dekes and nearly impossible to get a few juvies in.
Our field out of the closure has been very consistent for specs and a few snows.
Thankfully the guys...
From all I have heard, it sounds like Scott and his team have really busted their asses during the off season to improve Wister, thanks Wister crew
If a few signs missing are at the top of the list of what needs to be done, sounds like the refuge is in damn good shape
Some of us who were at Wister when a hunter died from a heart attack suggested that a map with GPS coordinates be created for hunter access and first responders
Crickets.......
Sorry guys, been a bit busy lately. Tom I responded to your PM. If you need any referrals we have a couple midwest guides we sell calls to who might be able to help
Otherwise, you might consider hunting up in the NE Zone, snows and specs
