    What's everyone using in a backpack camp situation..?

    Im just getting started on this so Ill give a little input. I decided to go with a freestanding 1 person tent, a lightweight pad, and a 20 degree bag that can open at the bottom to let my feet out. I believe Im at 6lbs with that combo. Kept all this to about $170.00 or so. So far it has worked...

    At least you got that experience of drawing down on an animal. Next time try and slow it down a little and go through your shot sequence. This year Im going to get some Judo points to practice on small game while scouting.

    Hiking in the rain.

    Went hunting on Thanksgiving. Rained all morning. Didnt see anything but it was my favorite day of hunting all season because of the rain. Saw some cool new areas and when I went back a few days later there were deer tracks over my boot prints.

    Honestly, I dont even really look at my paper maps anymore. I do carry them in my pack in case of battery issues. I use a few apps to figure out public land. ONXhunt Avenza maps ( has a downloadable version of the folded CNF map, along with others...BLM and such.) Google earth

    That map does not show the Laguna boundaries. The green bold line is the CNF boundary. While the Laguna Rec area is in the yellow it does not show the boundary. The visitors station near the Laguna Store has the area maps. The big folded version of the CNF map will show the red dotted boundary...
