This was more out of curiosity than anything but I decided to do a ladder test of CFE223 in my blued tikka t3x. The COAL was 2.94", so i used my dad's 30-06 magazine.

Ladder Test ~82 degree weather
308 WIN - Tikka T3x 22.4"
175gr Barnes LRX
CFE223
Lapua
Federal 210M
Seated .050” off lands

44.5 - 2597
45.0 - 2639
45.4 - 2649
45.8 - 2687
46.3 - 2700
46.7 - 2725
47.1 - 2746

No signs of pressure and still had room in my case for more powder. I'm sure I could push the round to 2800 but I have no need to since I am getting a 300 WM for elk.

Now I am baffled on the grouping of this test. Most likely shots 1, 5, and 6 are due to my lack of skill...but I think I need to start video taping my shoots to see if I am changing things up. My guess its me being inconsistent (especially shot #5, I am pretty sure I had terrible follow through on shot 5). This is at 100 yards.

Shot #1 could be due to inconsistent neck tension since I seated the bullet to deep, had to pull it and didn’t re-neck size it. Kind of expected that one to be off.

Definitely this is due to lack of form. Watching some tips from gunwerks on youtube and :poop:, at least i can identify the cause of 1 and 6 now. I am also pretty i slapped the trigger on 5.

Seems like it’s pretty consistent. You definitely had an affect. I looked at that powder for my kids 308 just to lazy to make the change. Crazy velocity for a 308. If you can shoot around 2700 that will be a 500 yard elk rifle.

For sure, I'm impressed as I didn't think my 22" barrel had a shot at it. I plan on loading up the 175 LRX in my dad's 30-06 with StaBall 6.5. I hear that is the new magic dust that should end up in 2800 to 2850 FPS range, which will be a solid elk cartridge. However, I may need to get him one of those witt muzzle brakes.
