CDFW’s Deer Conservation and Management Plan Now Available for Public Review

Wow, talk about better late than never. I have to read it in more detail and I plan to follow up with some comments to DFW, but a few things come to mind. First, I was delighted to read that they recognize 100% of their budget depends on hunting licenses and tag fees. Second, I was disappointed that "water" wasn't mentioned till page 15, more than halfway through the document, and even then it was only mentioned in passing as something deer need. In contrast, "climate change" is everywhere in the document.
Certainly drought is a problem, but drought and climate change are variables over which DFW can exert no influence. Water diversion may offer some opportunities in the same way periodic flooding of the Colorado has started to yield results. Just saying that so far the DFW lacks bold initiative. I encourage them to think outside the box.
